Parent Reunification Therapy
Reunification counseling is aimed at helping a parent and a child re-establish a relationship after a period of separation or trauma. It may be voluntary or court ordered. At The Next Step Counseling we work from a child centered approach, working to create a safe space for the child to express their feelings and begin to re integrate their relationship with their parent over time. It is important for the therapist to have an understanding of what led to the conflict in the relationship and have a thorough understanding of the situation. Before starting they will need all court documents and orders from the judge if applicable.
Treatment
Length of treatment varies depending on the nature and severity of the conflict. The process generally involves an initial phone consultation prior to agreeing to taking on the case, a separate meeting with each parent, sessions with the child both individually and with the parent seeking reunification. Sessions may be needed with the child and the custodial parent. The therapist may need to speak with others involved in the case and both parents must sign a release of information.
Rates
Parent reunification therapy is self pay. We do not accept insurance for this service. Due to the amount of time spent talking to attorneys, court appearances, and phone calls and emails with the parties involved a retainer is required up front. The rate for reunification therapy is $150.00 per hour with a 10 hour retainer up front.
